A’kito held his breath as he watched his mahogany colored dragon brought his huge wings down and in three strokes was hovering above the ground, yet only for a moment. ![]()
“Are you alright, Yuu?” A’kito asked running up to his bonded and checking his wings. A’kito’s green fire lizard Sawne chirped worriedly about the brown she’d known for only a turn. Yuuth looked over his shoulder and spread his wings high above his body then looked back his rider and his small yet older green cousin. I’m alright A’kito just got a bit side tracked by talking. Well I have a little secret to tell you, love. If you don’t figure out flying and talking at the same time we’ll be in trouble in the air and we’ll probably be the first to be scorched between by Thread if we even make it that far. Yuuth suddenly reared up and snarled up at the sky as if his life long nemesis were going to fall that very minute. Had the young dragon known how to flame yet a large spout would have emphasized his dislike for his mortal enemy. Thread will never hurt us that badly! I will make sure of that! the brown seemed to roar inside A’kito’s head. The brown shuffled his claws flapping his wings in aggravation, I will fly and be able to talk at the same time. I know I can do it; In fact, I was doing it the other day, you know, talking to Lilith. A’kito chuckled as he watched his lifemate’s rainbow colored eyes whirl wildly with shades of blues and greens, he’d taken a liking to his green sister and A’kito on this note had decided he might want to get a bit of a friendship going just in case of future events… it wasn’t working the best though on account of the brown rider’s slight shyness to the females of the weyr. He had to crack his neck upwards a bit more to see Yuuth better now… wait a moment… upwards? A’kito raised an eyebrow for a moment as his dragon continued his rant and rave about how he’d talk and fly at the same time; Inevitably, it lead to him talking about out flying his clutch mates and scorching Thread from the sky quicker than any dragon alive. A’kito though was now not really listening to his dragon but looking at the ground and how high off it his dragon was. The redfruit blond haired teen laughed joyfully. What’s so funny, A’kito? “You’re doing what you started out stating you’d do after your fall!” A’kito whooped, “You’re flying and talking at the same time!” The brown blinked and then looked down at his claws and found them above ground as well as his strong wings flapping. So I am, Yuuth’s comment seemed to smile in his rider’s head “Looks like it’s time to try it with you riding, A’kito,” a voice came from behind the two. A’kito turned quickly just as Yuuth landed as well as any newly flying dragon could. Before the two stood the Weyrling Master, M’kien; his brown Kortelth behind him. Both dragon and rider blinked in surprise. He was going to let them take their first flight together? As if knowing just what they were thinking M’kien called over another rider, “G’sham, I’d like to keep watch in the air as these two make their first flight,” and then turned back to the pair who would take their first flight together very soon, “You have made you’re first set of flying straps haven’t you, A’kito?” A’kito looked startled once again and thought hard, being nervous and excited about the prospect of flying was causing him to have a hard time remembering what he’d done in the past few sevendays. After a moment the boy nodded. “It’s back at our weyr, I’ll go get it.” A’kito replied excitedly and started to dash off toward the weyrling barracks. Yuuth, oddly feeling a bit cocky took a short run and leapt into the air and followed his rider at a slow glide. Though it was slow he soon was next to his rider and quickly passed him. A’kito laughed, feeling very childish he sprinted after his dragon You could have stayed with Weyrling Master M’kien, I would have been back soon enough. I want to get my flight straps on as soon as I can… I’ll see you back at our bed. the dragon replied with a crow and speed towards the weyrling barracks. A’kito laughed again and continued his pursuit of his bonded.
A’kito sat upon Yuuth as the brown walked them up to the brown and blue riders who were to watch them take their first flight. It took another five minutes after they arrived before M’kien was satisfied with the tightness of the straps about the dragon and rider as well as explaining of what would go on. They would make approximately 3-5 flights, all low to the ground but all are very important. A’kito nodded and Yuuth rumbled with the anticipation that the pairing felt. “Now, G’sham, into the air with you and your blue Immuth,” M’kien commanded. The blue rider smiled and mounted quickly. Soon he and his Dawn Sisters Weyr bred blue were in the air and hovering over the two browns and their riders on the ground. M’kien nodded as he like the place the experienced blue rider was stationed. “Now it’s your turn, remember only a short flight; not to far off the ground.” A’kito nodded, Let’s do it, Yuuth. Here we go. the brown stated taking a few steps while flapping his giant wings before rocketing off his well muscled hind legs. Yuuth too five wing strokes in the air, though to A’kito it felt like more at the wind crashed into his face and a huge grin flushed over his skin. What short hair he had was whipped wildly out of his face. Yuuth then glided towards the ground. Back winging he came to a fairly jarring stop, thrusting A’kito into the ridge in front of him. “We did it, Yuuth!” the boy whooped and the brown seemed to dance with the same excitement. The clearing of a throat cause the duo to stop their antics. “Again,” M’kien commanded sternly, no humor showing in his features. A’kito grinned, true the Weyrling Master was showing now real feeling towards Yuuth’s and his first flight but they were still willing to fly again. You heard him, Yuu. Let’s go. Yuuth nodded his great head and this time tried a standing take off. To A’kito the standing take off seemed even better than the running on. Again A’kito’s hair was messed with again. Once again Yuuth made a glide down to the ground yet this time didn’t jar his rider as much though A’kito still move forward greatly. Three more time, A’kito and brown Yuuth were told to go up into the air and three more times they got a little better. M’kien nodded as the last flight was completed and motioned for A’kito. By now A’kito was wondering why M’kien had made him fly so many times. “Why so…” “Many flights?” M’kien finished for the youngster, a slight grin playing on his weathered features. “Not that we don’t mind flying so many times,” A’kito replied thinking the Weyrling Master might think he thought of the flights as a chore. “So I… er, you don’t think it’s dumb luck,” he smiled before putting forth his hand and gripped A’kito’s, “Congratulations on your first flight, A’kito, brown Yuuth’s rider. Now, I don’t want you flying too much, if you are you must be watched by an experienced pairing and you must clear it with me.” A’kito beamed as he nodded and ran over to thump Yuuth’s shoulder. “Sir?” A’kito suddenly whirled around with a grin, “Can we fly back to the barracks?” M’kien’s brow furrowed as he contemplated the query. After a time the older rider’s eye unfocused and his brown Kortelth rumbled as he looked up towards the blue still hovering above them. A chirp came from the blue and M’kien grinned back at the boy. “Only to the barrack, G’sham will accompany you,” the brown rider told the Weyrling pairing. A’kito hurriedly thanked the Weyrling Master and jumped on Yuuth, quickly for one with a shorter right leg. Under the watchful eye of M’kien, A’kito once again strapped himself into his flight straps. To the weyrling barracks, Love, he commanded as he waved to his Master. With a short run and Yuuth’s wing’s pumping powerfully the duo launched into the air and started to wing the distance back to the barrack, a blue pairing watching over them as they went.
