The Books: How to Select & Add Books to Your HelpGram

Quick Reference: How to Select & Add Books to Your HelpGram

  • To generate a list of recommended readings, note the book titles that you come across in your research.
  • Only search for books on Amazon.com.
  • Only select well-rated books that are not out of print.
  • Only select books that are appropriate for a broad audience.
  • Avoid selecting books that seem overly prescriptive or controversial.
  • Once you’ve selected a book to recommend, type or paste the ISBN number into the space provided on your HelpGram template. If no ISBN number is available, use the ASIN number instead.
  • Type or paste the books' titles only.

The recommended readings refer the reader to three books that you think are particularly helpful. Since HelpGram is an Amazon affiliate, you must select all books from Amazon.com. Users will be able to purchase books through Amazon.com directly from HelpGram.com.

Follow the procedures below when selecting books:

  1. Pay attention to the references listed in your research articles or on any Web sites you come across during your research. These sources provide clues to expert-approved or widely-referenced books that are appropriate for your topic.
  1. Only select well-rated books that are not out of print from Amazon.
  1. Only select books that are appropriate for a non-professional audience. In addition, avoid books that are controversial or that seem overly prescriptive.

To paste books into the template, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the title only (not the author) and the ISBN# of the book into the template.
  1. Find the ISBN# for the book on Amazon.com by looking in the "Product Details" section for each book or by clicking the link under the book's picture marked "see more product details."
  1. Make sure that you include only the ten characters of the ISBN and nothing else (no extra spaces or anything), so your link will work properly.
