The expert statement should capture and keep the reader's attention. Although the expert statement should be 100-150 words, we prefer for the expert statement to be closer to 100 words. But we understand that since the depth of each topic will vary, some expert statements will deserve more explanation. Nonetheless, an expert statement should never exceed 150 words. In addition, the expert statement should never exceed three paragraphs, and each paragraph should consist of a minimum of three sentences and a maximum of four sentences.

Each expert statement should do the following:

Your expert statement should answer some or all of the the following questions:

Introduce and define the issue

Explain the relevance of the issue to the user

Increase the reader's motivation to do something about the issue

Reassure them that a positive outcome is possible

Introduce the data points and the links

Although we want you to stick to the above format as closely as possible, we realize that not every topic will lend itself to this exact format. For example, the definition of some topics will be so self-explanatory that they will not need to be defined. However, you can easily incorporate the other functions of an expert statement into just about any topic.

The examples below illustrate some of the above functions of an expert statement:

Of course, lots of books and articles offer an assortment of industry facts, but there's just no substitute for the real-world opinions that an insider can offer.
