TED SHACKLEFORD (GARY EWING) |
Ted Shackelford was born on June 23 in Oklahoma City, but grew up mainly in Tulsa, with stopovers in Long Island, N.Y., and Guam -- where his father, a physician, was stationed while serving in the military. He briefly attended Westminster College in Denver, performing in community and dinner-club theaters in productions of "Hogan's Goat," "Night of Iguana," "Bus Stop," "Sunday in New York," "My Three Angeles" and "The Pleasure of His Company," among other plays. Like many actors before him, Shackelford moved to New York to further his career. He found the going slow at first and ended up working for over a year at the Carlyle Hotel as night manager, before finally landing a stand-by part in the Broadway play, "Murder Among Friends." He simultaneously began a year-long run in the daytime drama "Another World." Acting on another major career decision, Shackelfrod made the move to Hollywood, arriving on Christmas Day in 1975. Since then, he has co-starred in the Network dramatic special, "The Defection of Simas Kudirka," with Alan Arkin, and starred in the motion picture-for-television, "The Jordan Chance," with Raymond Burr, also broadcast on the Network. Shackelford's other television credits include guest-starring roles in episodes of "The Rockford Files," "Big Hawaii" and "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman." In the latter episode, he appeared with Joan Van Ark, who now play his wife, Val, in "Knots Landing." Shackelford is 6'1" tall, weighs 175 pounds, has blue eyes and blond hair. He and his wife, Actress Jan Leverenz, reside in Hollywood. |
