Despite the fact that Juventus
put up a good fight at the Olimpico against Lazio on Wednesday evening,
in the papers today there is only praise for the hosts. The papers are
in an unforgiving mood and do not treat Juventus with the respect that
should be afforded to a side leading the League race for the Scudetto.
Tuttosport is the exception in that it reports on Alex Del Piero's fantastic
goal: "Del Piero Cannot Save The Day". They follow it up with: "Del Piero
came on in the second half in place of Bachini and performed well immediately.
Ancelotti's team paid for their first leg result when they were up 3-0
and the game ended 3-2."
In the Gazzetta dello Sport
we can read the comments of coach Carlo Ancelotti: "We waited for things
to happen and were not willing to stick our necks out. We were very evenly
matched and it could have gone either way. It is obviously disappointing
to be out of the competition and there is some regret, but looking at it
positively, Del Piero returned to form with his goal and that will be a
huge boost for him. But I have always liked his game regardless of his
goalscoring."
Finally, Tuttosport has some
news on the transfer market: "Everyone Wants Inzaghi". They continue by
saying, "Manchester has offered Beckham, Lazio Nesta, Inter Vieri and Roma
Totti. Luciano Moggi has refused an offer of about £25million for
the player, so the larger clubs are upping the stakes by including their
top players in the deal. But Juve are not budging."
