Tuttosport opens its account
of the day's sports stories with some more of its customary transfer speculation:
"Oliseh-Diawara-Thriller" is the obscure headline. The editorial explains:
"Arsenal have enquired about the Juve star and have almost closed the deal
with Torino for their Frenchman." As if that weren't enough, the Turin-based
daily claims that Juve are "making moves on Sol Campbell". Should they
fail in that mission, Tuttosport claims, there's always Alessandro Nesta.
Many column inches are also dedicated to an angry Antonio Conte, who offers
his view on the controversial banners recently unfurled by Lazio fans.
"There is no need to suspend matches to combat racism. It would be far
better to ignore the actions of a few idiots." Conte also makes the news
in the Gazzetta dello Sport, where he gives his nod of approval to the
Coppa Italia experiment of using a twin referee.
All today's papers cover
Alessandro Del Piero's return to action on Saturday night when he will
be aiming to score his first League goal from open play against Udinese.
It was at Udine on 8 November 1998 that he picked up his terrible injury.
The Gazzetta dello Sport also dedicates its front-page story to the return
of Del Piero.
The Corriere dello Sport
meanwhile thinks it has found a chink in the Juve armour. For the fifth
time, the paper asserts, the Bianconeri have let a lead slip. Carlo Ancelotti,
however, is having none of it. "Not conceding goals is the responsibility
of the entire team, not just the defence. On set plays we need to be perfect."
