A full team of Juventus players
participated in an array of international fixtures on Wednesday night.
Italy's home win over Sweden was secured thanks to a Del Piero penalty
10 minutes from time. The Juve star gained higher votes in the morning's
player ratings than any other Bianconero, with the three sports dailies
all awarding him a 6. The performances of Ciro Ferara (substituted with
Mark Iuliano with 15 minutes remaining), Pessotto, Alessio Tacchinardi
and Filippo Inzaghi were all adjudged to have been solid but unspectacular,
coming in around the 5 to 5.5 mark. It was a winning night, meanwhile,
for almost all of Juventus' foreign contingent. Here are those results
in full.
The score France 1-0 Poland
Starring Zinedine Zidane
The verdict Another superb
performance by Zidane. His goal, scored from a free-kick 20m out and five
minutes from time, handed France the victory.
The score Macedonia 1-2 Yugoslavia
Starring Darko Kovacevic
The verdict Darko was a
little unlucky; he played for the full 90 minutes, but blew two good goal
scoring chances.
The score Holland 2-1 Germany
Starring Edgar Davids and
Edwin Van der Sar
The verdict Both men played
for the full 90 minutes, helping the Dutch to an important victory over
rivals Germany - Holland's first since October 1998. Davids did pick up
a yellow card on the way, while Van der Sar contributed two fine saves
to the night's proceedings.
The score Croatia 0-0 Spain
Starring Igor Tudor
The verdict The jury's still
out, since Tudor didn't get to play.
