This morning's three sports
dailies are unanimous in their praise for Alex Del Piero, the star of the
match against Bari. Typically partisan, Tuttosport dedicates its front
page to Del Piero's "wizardry", reminding its readers, "He laid on a goal
for Conte with a crafty back heel, scored a penalty and hit the crossbar.
The Juve striker led the Bianconeri, almost single-handed, to victory over
Bari." But if Del Piero thinks he has got away with no mention of his lack
of a goals from open play, he has to think again. "All that was missing,"
the sports daily concludes, "was a goal from open play". Ever helpful,
Tuttosport has a suggestion: "Make the goals wider."
The Gazzetta dello sport
headlines with "Juve, Del Piero shines too." The Corriere dello sport agrees:
"What a Del Piero!" The Rome-based daily has comments from the man himself:
"Yes, I'm still missing that goal. When I hit the post I had a little chuckle
to myself."
But it is not all Del Piero
today. Tuttosport also goes big on Zinedine Zidane, who is judged to have
had another excellent display, along with Edgar Davids. "We did what we
had to," Carlo Ancelotti explains, "even though we struggled a bit before
the first goal."
It is Ancelotti again who
goes to the heart of the Bianconeri's season in the Gazzetta. "Juve may
have less skill than their rivals, but they keep winning thanks to their
determination and unbending strength."
