Italy prepares

Dino Zoff’s Italy squad will
meet at their usual camp in Coverciano on Monday, in preparation for this
summer’s Euro 2000. Seven Bianconeri – Mark Iuliano, Ciro Ferrara, Gianluca
Pessotto, Antonio Conte, Gianluca Zambrotta, Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo
Inzaghi – have returned from a week’s holiday and will be among the 26-man
group.
They are not the only ones
to be facing international action. Edgar Davids and Edwin Van der Sar will
be getting ready for the tournament with the Dutch side, while Zinedine
Zidane joins the French squad and Darko Kovacevic the Yugoslavian.
Further afield, the 2002
World Cup qualifiers are continuing apace in South America. Uruguay national
coach Daniel Passarella has called up Paolo Montero and Juve new recruit
Fabian O’Neill for his side’s third match, against Chile at Montevideo
on 3 June.
Finally, young Enzo Maresca’s
presence has been requested by Claudio Gentile, who heads up the Italy
Under-20 side. Maresca will be hoping to see some of the action in the
Tolone tournament, which runw from 25 May to 4 June.
