Del Piero to play as striker - Ancelotti

Boss Carlo Ancelotti has had his say on the question raised by Italy's new coach Giovanni Trapattoni, concerning Alessandro del Piero's role on the field. It has been a huge topic if debate as to whether he should play as a striker or as an advanced midfielder behind two more strikers.

According to Ancelotti, he will definitely be utilised as a striker. "We wanted see if Alex could also play as midfielder, more like Zidane," he said, before adding: "That's why in the game against Rayo Vallecano he played in that role. The experiment was definitely a success so now I know that I can count on Alex to fill in that role, but just in case of need."

Therefore, Ancelotti has given every indication that his primary role at the Delle Alpi will be a striking one.
