Giovanni Trapattoni is set
to give Alessandro Del Piero a chance. The Juventus striker is ready to
open a new chapter with the Italian national team. “It will be up to me
to prove the coach that he was right in trusting me. My role has not changed.
I’ve always considered myself a striker and I’m happy that Trapattoni thinks
the same way,” declared Del Piero.
He continued: “This rivalry
with Francesco Totti has no reason for existing. He’ll play right behind
the two strikers, practically the same role he plays with AS Roma. I’ll
have to take advantage of his moves. I don’t feel under fire at all, I
know that the world is watching me and every little mistake I make will
be multiplied. All I want to think about now is the national team and to
qualify for the next World Cup in the best way possible.”
Alessandro Del Piero is eager
and willing to start this new adventure in the new-look national team,
but deep down inside he hopes to stand out and show how he really is, something
that apparently did not happen before.
