It's the topic of the day
in Italy: why didn't Alessandro Del Piero score anymore? Giuseppe Signori,
forward of Bologna, spent a similar moment in his career, successive to
his moving away from Lazio: he missed the goal in Serie A for 10 months,
from January to November 1998. So on Monday, interviewed by Ansa press
agency, he takes part to the "Del Piero case" and defences the Juventus
forward.
"It's not crisis in my opinion,
first of all because the work of Del Piero is not just to score, but to
be an assist man as well. If he nets ten times in a season, but he does
twenty assists, well, I rate his championship as very good. And despite
all the talks of these days, I think he is still one of the best Italian
players around!" Beppe-gol said.
And added "This is a typical
Italian thing: as soon as something doesn't go in the right way, we submerge
it with criticisms! When Del Piero says the ball had a wrong rebound when
he had the chance to score the 3-1 in the second half against Hungary,
well, it's the truth, as television images proved. So I cannot understand
why everyone blames him for an easy chance missed, it's not his fault that
rebound!"
"Anyway, in a career of a
forward it happens to find a period where everything seems against you.
The best thing is to not think about that at all, and to continue to wait.
But I repeat, despite the lack of goals, I don't think Del Piero is in
crisis"
