Wednesday's papers point
out that there's something to smile about for Alex Del Piero as he gets
his big chance on the international stage.
The Gazzetta dello Sport
believes that national team coach and ex-Juve manager Giovanni Trapattoni
looks set to pick the Conegliano-born forward in place of Pippo Inzaghi,
who is ill as Georgia provide the opposition for the Azzurri in Ancona
this evening. The Milan pink also highlights Carlo Ancelotti's concern
about Zinedine Zidane's two-match Champions League ban, deemed "excessively
harsh" by the manager.
The Corriere dello Sport
is excited by the possibilities of the Del Piero-Totti partnership. Back
in Turin, Ancelotti knows that the following couple of weeks are a crucial
period for the club. The big question the Rome daily asks is: will Del
Piero take on the playmaking duties?
Tuttosport really throws
the cat among the pigeons claiming that Juve and Milan are ready to scavenge
for the services of Roma's golden boy Francesco Totti. Meanwhile injured
wingback Gianluca Zambrotta has extended his contract till 2005. Filippo
Inzaghi is not a happy chap as a viral bug has excluded him from national
service at a time when he was hitting a real purple patch. Over to you,
Alex!
