Two goals mean always something
for a player. Especially if this player is Alessandro Del Piero, who is
trying to conquer again the trust of Italian supporters after a black period.
Against Georgia the Juventus star replaced his club mate Filippo Inzaghi,
hit by flue, in the Giovanni Trapattoni's line-up, and he didn't miss the
chance the coach offered him.
"Well, we already supposed
this match could have been a lot harder than that against Romania, and
during the 90 minutes surely Georgia has been able to trouble us. But to
take two wins in few days it's very important for the moral and it put
us in a very good position in the standing"
"So, it was a good start,
we closed the first qualifiers phase with a good gap on the other teams
and we just defeated the two squads reputed as the most dangerous ones"
Del Piero said.
About his own performance,
the forward explained "I hadn't to prove anything to anyone tonight, my
only target was that to help the team to take the win. Obviously I'm very
happy for the two goals I scored, to net is always very important, even
if it comes from penalties. They give me trust and joy, so I could say
I found what I was looking for"
And he closed "It's time
to relax for the national team, we have now the chance to face next matches
in a more serene way. At the contrary, personally I haven't the opportunity
to rest at all. There is always a lot of expectations from me, but I take
that as a prove of admiration and trust toward myself".
