Juventus go into tonight's
match knowing that they're drinking in the last chance saloon. Paolo Montero
could be back as Tuttosport point out that a draw isn't enough for the
Bianconeri if Hamburg beat Deportivo at home. Alex Del Piero will take
on the playmaking mantle of the suspended Zinedine Zidane with the club
standing to lose somewhere in the region of £17m should they not
qualify. Carlo Ancelotti has apparently relegated David Trezeguet to the
bench gone with Inzaghi-Kovacevic front combination. The good news is that
Uruguayan central defender Paolo Montero may well play a part.
The Gazzetta dello Sport
also urges on the Bianconeri as it is a very poignant day for Del Piero
having picked up his fateful injury two years ago on this very day against
Udinese. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is confident Juve can do it and doesn't
feel in danger: "I don't think that my job depends on this one game," he
shrugs. The Bianconeri skipper Antonio Conte, himself a big-match player,
is also trying to gee up his team-mates: "We have to push forward; it wouldn't
be the first time we've qualified at the death," points out the Italian
international.
The Corriere dello Sport
reminds the club that Athens is where Hamburg defeated them in the 1983
European Cup Final match with a certain Felix Magath doing the damage.
The Rome daily reckons that Montero will be on the bench and that Fabian
O'Neill will start. The forward pairing of Pippo Inzaghi and Darko Kovecevic
is also regarded as very probable given that the two players were rested
on Sunday. Antonio Conte has picked out former Bianconero Paulo Sousa and
veteran Polish striker Krzysztof Warzycha as the Greeks' main threats,
but the man from Lecce is in buoyant mood: "We are in great shape and now
it's up to us."
