Today's papers are performing
the post-mortem on the Bianconeri's unexpected defeat last night at the
hands of Lazio.
The GAZZETTA DELLO SPORT
confirms the home side's domination at the hands of protagonists Crespo
and Nedved: "Crespo cyclone around Juve". Davids' controversial sending
off killed off the Bianconeri, and the resulting defeat makes a come back
in the title race impossible, the paper reflects. Del Piero is the only
star of the side. The Juve coach refuses to give in to hysteria, though,
analysing the defeat with calm: "We lost badly, but we still have the chance
to reach the top". Reflecting on Roma's away draw, Ancelotti concludes
that little is changed in the title race. Nevertheless, the scoreline signals
the end of Van der Sar's unbeaten run in goal, which now stays at 481 minutes.
The CORRIERE DELLO SPORT
also surmises that Zoff's Lazio have seen off the Bianconeri's title hopes.
Meanwhile, Juve calmly take the opportunity of a pause in league fixtures
to sort out their transfer strategy. The Roman daily predicts surprises
in attack.
TUTTOSPORT, headlines "Juve
Fury!", picking up on the evening's refereeing catastrophes, which saw
both Davids and Trezeguet sent off. Referee Collina is accused of being
anti-Juve, and not for the first time. Juve's Director General, Moggi,
is furious with the official and disputes the first Nedved goal as offside.
On the players performance, meanwhile, Inzaghi and Zidane were having an
off-night, the Turin daily reflects. Del Piero shone, on the other hand,
but his goal and performance were overshadowed by the enormity of the defeat.
"I'm much more distressed for the team than happy for my goal", he reflects
sadly.
