Today's papers are still
high on doping scandals, and LA GAZZETTA DELLO SPORT carries Edgar Davids's
response to failing a test for Nandrolone. The Dutch midfielder is distraught,
announcing disparagingly: "I hate drugs. I don't even take the simplest
of cures, not even 'flu remedies". He continues, shocked at the doping
accusations: "I look after my body, its where my soul is". The leaked stories
meanwhile will be examined by the Rome courts. Ancelotti, meanwhile, declares
public support for the club's medical staff.
Davids' desperation continues
in IL CORRIERE DELLO SPORT: "I don't take drugs". Reaction from the club
is strong, and the Roman daily reports the news that Chiusano has filed
a complaint to the police for the leaked news. Rumours that the news broke
in conjunction with that on Couto is strongly denied from Lazio quarters,
who are apparently suspicious of 'irregularities' in the urine tests. Indeed,
there's the admission that Zambrotta's accusation was a false alarm, down
to interference by painkillers. In sum, all hell has broken loose at the
two clubs at the heart of the doping accusations. On a more lighthearted
note, there's revelations of Del Piero's talents off the field. Apparently
Alex was once an aspiring poet, winning a poetry prize at the age of nine!
TUTTOSPORT , though, is back
to the doping accusations and angry reactions of the Bianconero club. Davids
loudly declares his innocence and the club denounce the leak to the authorities.
As ever, there's always room
for transfer rumours. Vieira is warming up his Juve future again, declaring:
"The Bianconeri want me". Apparently, his current coach has finally got
the message, too, and will be prepared to release him at the end of the
season. Moggi is reportedly following Delvecchio, likely to leave Roma,
in case efforts with Inter fall through. Cameroon midfielder, Olembe, is
stirring up interest as a natural Davids substitute, while Frenchman, Makelele
is also under examination. In terms of players moving in the opposite direction,
Real Madrid are claiming they have an option on Zidane, while Tapie, back
in charge at Marseille, is rumoured to be in Italy to lure back Trezeguet:
even if it costs him 54 billion Lire.
Ancelotti reacts to ensure
that players are not distracted at this crucial time, and Zambrotta pleads
that its time to stop muddying players.
