Del Piero has spoken about his new responsibility of being captain, adding
that he hopes to stay with Juve for the rest of his career. Del Piero is
becoming more and more the leader of the bianconeri. Unlike his friends
Filippo Inzaghi and Zinedine Zidane, who decided to move elsewhere, after
a period of ups and downs Alex has decided that his place for now and the
future is at Juventus.
The
fact that from this season onwards Del Piero will also be the captain of
the bianconeri is another sign of the fact that Pinturicchio is fully committed
to Juve's cause. "Even though you can never tell what will happen in the
future, I think I can say that I really hope that I'll be a Juventus player
forever. "I know that now I will have an incredible responsibility since
I'll also be the captain but I am ready to start this new season full of
enthusiasm and optimism. I truly hope that I'll be able to help this team
to win." Del Piero also talked about the changes that have took place inside
his squad. "I must say that I expected something to change but I honestly
did not think that Zidane and Inzaghi would have left. However I think
that both sides had agreed on a change, because both players have left
without any controversy. "On the other hand I'm positive that we have acquired
all of the strongest players on the market. "Without Zizou the team will
obviously be different but I'm sure that Marcello Lippi has more than one
solution ready for our side and that he will succeed in lining-up the team
in a way that allows each and every one of us to play in our natural roles."
Focusing on the actions of Juve's competitors over the summer, Alex continued:
"Roma did not change their team much and I believe they've made the right
choice. AC Milan have become much stronger, just like us I hope. "But we
should not forget that Inter Milan and Lazio will both be looking forward
to turning things around after last season's not so brilliant results."
