Although many of his Juventus
colleagues were given a rest, Alessandro Del Piero is glad to have played
in the 2-1 Tim Cup win over Sampdoria. The Italy striker said after the
first-leg win in Genoa that he did not mind being called in to do some
extra work: "These are nice games to play in. I really enjoyed being on
the field tonight."
Del Piero went on to say
that he was quite pleased with the performance by the bianconeri in light
of the fact that most of the team had hardly ever played together: "I believe
we have played very well because we had a lot of first team players missing.
The youth team players did pretty well."
Alex, as Del Piero is known,
also mentioned Diego Armando Maradona, the retired Argentina and Napoli
legend who in his book, has written words of praise for the Juve star stating
that he is even better than Zinedine Zidane: "I don't think that there
are any words left to really describe Maradona. Therefore the fact that
he even thought about me fills me with pride and makes me incredibly happy."
Maradona enjoyed a spectacular
farewell game on Saturday in front of 50,000 adoring fans in Boca Juniors'
Bombonera stadium where he scored twice from the penalty spot for the Argentina
national side in a 6-3 win over a select World XI.
