Fan mail occupies Del Piero's free-time

Over 80% of Alessandro Del Piero's fan mail is from the opposite sex and the Juve star admits that the boxes of letters he gets each week have led to some interesting relationships.

"I receive many, many letters," Del Piero told Guerin Sportivo. "The fan club sends them to Juventus and every week the Bianconeri put them in a box and send them to me. Sometimes there are two boxes and a few times three boxes. In the future, we will need a van to collect them all.

"The girls tell me about their lives, their emotions, they tell everything," he said. "With a few of them I have developed a writing relationship over many years. I get to know their lives from moment to moment. I'm like a brother for them. I try to answer everybody. Honestly it is very hard, but I always try to answer every letter.

"I get together with some teammates and sometimes we try to put similar letters together, so when I answer one maybe I can answer the same question in 30 letters. But recently there has been an explosion of e-mail correspondence. I received lots and lots when I opened my site. Sometimes there are very personal questions, sometimes very awkward for me to answer. At Christmas time they send to me many things, small presents but very nice."

"Recently, there is a strong relationship with all of Asia," he added. "For a few months I have been advertising Ray Ban sunglasses on the Asiatic market and in Japan we have filmed a TV programme called, 'Our Del Piero'."

As for his social life, the glamour of a rich star is not for DP. "We usually train in the afternoon so this means I have got time to sleep in the mornings. At night I mostly stay in my house as I like to stay at home. Sometimes I will dine with friends, but not many times all together. Cinema sometimes, but rarely do we go clubbing."
