ROME - Juventus coach Marcello
Lippi believes the return from injury of Italy forward Alessandro Del Piero
may prove decisive in the Serie A title race.
Del Piero has been out since
damaging his thigh against Inter Milan last weekend, missing Sunday's 1-0
win over Verona.
While AS Roma's title challenge
has been boosted by the form of Vincenzo Montella and Inter have Ronaldo
to return, the Italian media have questioned where Juventus will find inspiration.
'I guarantee that we will
have Del Piero in the best of form,' Lippi was quoted as saying on RAI
television.
'We're anxiously awaiting
his return because his contribution will be decisive in our remaining seven
matches.'
Juventus were knocked out
of the Champions League following a 3-1 defeat Bayer Leverkusen last week.
But Lippi, whose side face
Parma in the Italian Cup final, is confident the season can still be a
success.
'We were conscious that we
had to confirm our status as one of the title contenders, especially after
exiting from the Champions League,' Lippi added.
'My objective and aim is
to play our remaining seven matches at the highest possible level.
'Although I am displeased
at our European exit, I am glad to be fighting for the championship and
the Italian Cup.'
Juventus have 55 points,
one behind leaders Roma and second-placed Inter Milan.
