Del Piero: This championship is a dream!

The day after the victory against Piacenza, Alex Del Piero talks about this amazing end season rush: "The great thing about football and this three team rush is that in a few minutes things can change. This championship is dream-like".

An objection is made, by whom thinks that the three star teams on the hunt for the title are not playing good football. Alex answers: "I believe that little attention is paid to quality football on behalf of the whole system, other matters are discussed and so the beauty of the sport is compromised". The morale is very high at Juventus. Our captain confirms: "Three weeks ago, when we drew with Lazio, we were discouraged. Then with a couple of victories and helped by the other team's results our hopes started to grow again. Now we believe in it, but we still have to keep on hoping that the team in front of us will make an another mistake". Next there's the Coppa Italia final away, then the home game with Brescia, away at Udinese and the return match against Parma. The intentions are not to make any mistakes.

"For us they are going to be four finals, and the team's spirt is high. It is true that we haven't played very well, after Perugia's performance, that was very intense. Yesterday for example during the first half we could have done more, but we met one of the best teams of the moment. Maybe we were lucky, but also played well, but Nedved scored the winning goal that allowed us to take home three points.

Baggio recovers in record time and the media are already setting up a case between the two of them for the World Cup. Alex comments: "First of all I'm suprised that he's already back on the pitch and scored two goals, an important thing for him. But I don't believe that there is any rivalry between us, the whole deal has no real basis, maybe just to make some noise. This doesn't mean that one or the other has to go, I believe that I played well this year and deserve to be part of the expedition. On his account, he still has two games to prove that he's fit and worthy of joining the team. I don't understand why they keep on putting us against each other, maybe because of France '98, where there might have been something, but we were always honest towards one another and respected each other".

They asked him why every time the National team is discussed, they always talk about him and not Totti, for example. Alex said: "Because Trapattoni was very clear, and wants him in that position. While at the beginning of the season I sometimes started from the bench, but afterwards I always played and I think well and I'm satisfied with myself. As second forward there's alot of competition, like Inzaghi and Montella".
