Juventus forward Alessandro
Del Piero is relishing the World Cup, as it will give him a chance to put
the misery of France 98 and Euro 2000 behind him.
The 27-year-old was disappointing
in both tournaments-not scoring in 1998, and missing two sitters against
France in the European Championship final, which Italy went on to lose.
However, he now wants to
shake off the label of a player who doesn't perform in the big tournaments.
"This World Cup will have
a taste of revenge for me," he said. "I feel in great shape, seen as the
injury I suffered before the end of the championship allowed me to rest."
"I think I will be a starter.
I'm glad this time nobody will be talking about the Totti-Del Piero rivalry,
as it is clear we play in different parts of the pitch."
