With the goals against Yugoslavia
and Wales - two beautiful free-kicks -, Del Piero has reached the number
of 21 goals scored with the main Italian team. Both goals were deflected
on the wall, but this hasn't stopped Del Piero to overcome Paolo Rossi
among the all-time Italy goalscorers - the former Juventus star scored
20 goals in his azzurra carreer.
These are the all-time top
scorers for Italy:
1: Gigi Riva...35 goals
2: Giuseppe Meazza..33
3: Silvio Piola...30
4: Roberto Baggio...27
5: Alessandro Altobelli,
Adolfo Baloncieri...25
7: Francesco Graziani...23
8: Sandro Mazzola...22
9: Alessandro Del Piero...21
10: Paolo Rossi...20
11: Roberto Bettega...19
Del Piero made his international
debut in March 25, 1995 (Italy 4-1 Estonia) and has scored important goals
during these seven years, like the one which assured Italy's qualification
to the 2002 World Cup. Alex surely still has a long way to go with his
country.
