Atletico Madrid will offer Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero a salary of 8million US dollars (£5million) a year (£5million) in a bid to bring the Italian to Spain.

Del Piero, 24, has not renewed his contract with the Bianconeri, but Atletico, according to reports in Spain, would have to still pay Juve 17million US dollars (£10.5million) for the forward on top of personal terms.

Preliminary talks took place between Atletico director general Miguel Angel Gil, the son of Atletico owner Jesus Gil, and the player's agent Claudio Pasqualin last month during Atletico's UEFA Cup quarter-final with Roma.

Del Piero has missed most of the season through injury in what has so far been a disappointing campaign for the club.
