All the front pages of the Italian papers feature the much-talked-about events surrounding Marco Pantani in the Giro d'Italia cycling race (Pantani was eliminated for failing a blood test).

There is also plenty of football talk and the Christian Vieri saga continues to hold centre stage.

Corriere dello Sport refers to Juventus' concerted efforts to sign Vieri and talks of the club's increasing interest in Giannichedda. Juventus coach Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of Giannichedda's abilities. Tuttosport highlights how well friends and teammates Vieri and Inzagi combined up front on Saturday evening in Bologna (for Italy v Wales) and how they might do a similar job together for Juventus. Inside Tuttosport, "Anelka: Juve let's talk, nothing has been decided yet. So I think that anything can still happen." The French forward is certain to leave Arsenal but Real Madrid are the favourites to sign him.

Gazzetta dello Sport is full of the Vieri saga. The Lazio forward says he'll go where he wants to. Then there is an interview with general manager Luciano Moggi concerning Alex Del Piero's contract. "I am in no doubt that Del Piero will stay with us. The final details will be settled when Alex returns to Italy."

Other transfer market news: "Thuram: Massimo Moratti makes Stefano Tanzi waver. Inter offer the huge sum of 70bn lira (around £25m): they are moving towards a deal." Lazio are more and more interested in signing Enrico Chiesa from Parma whilst in Corriere dello Sport's opinion the Parma forward is much closer to signing for Giovanni Trapattoni's Fiorentina.

From Brazil, Dos Santos Marcio Amoroso says he's signing for Parma. In an interview with Tuttosport, Italian team coach Dino Zoff compares the Vieri-Inzaghi combination to the successful Bettega-Rossi pairing. The last item of news is about a great player who we will probably not be seeing on the pitch from next season. Roberto Mancini has decided to hang up his boots to become Lazio's general manager.
