The Christian Vieri saga
is finally over. His move to Inter will be made official in the next few
hours.
All the headlines in the
sports papers are about the 'bomber' from the Italian national side.
Tuttosport: "Vieri goes to
Inter for 90bn lira (around £32m). It's the highest transfer fee
ever." Further on, the paper writes that Juventus are to sign Pavel Nedved
and Serbian forward Darko Kovacevic. The Serb from Real Sociedad will play
alongside Inzaghi.
The paper goes on to say
that Paolo Vanoli is set to arrive from Parma whilst Bachini is now certain
to sign from Udinese. Gazzetta dello Sport has the headline: "Vieri alongside
Ronaldo at Inter. 70bn lira in cash plus Simeone to Lazio."
There is also news of the
national side. A win over Switzerland would book a place for Italy in EURO
2000.
Corriere dello Sport opens
along similar lines to Tuttosport. "Vieri with Ronaldo. Massive coup for
Inter: Lippi will have an amazing attack. Massimo Moratti (Inter Milan
president) wins over Sergio Cragnotti (Lazio president): the national side's
centre forward is valued at 90bn lira (Simeone plus 69bn lira in cash).
Lazio rejected a desperate bid by Juventus, who offered Davids plus cash.
The Bianconeri are now focusing on Anelka while they close deals with Kovacevic
and Rapajc."
Inside Tuttosport, the papers
reports on how the Kovacevic signing is some consolation for Juventus and
that Real Sociedad will get 35bn lira (around £12.5m) for him. The
paper says Di Livio is almost certain to move to Trapattoni's Fiorentina
and that his replacement will be Bachini. It also says that Del Piero's
contract looks like being renewed and that Inzaghi has a meeting about
his future today.
According to Corriere dello
Sport the renewal of Alessandro Del Piero's contract is practically done
and dusted. The paper says that Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi
is optimistic that Del Piero will sign when he returns from his Caribbean
holiday, though there have been no recent developments. The crunch meeting
is to be held midway through next week. Del Piero will also take part in
the meeting.
With regard to the national
team, the paper says that Italy needs three points to qualify for Europe.
A win today would make qualification a certainty.
Gazzetta dello Sport focuses
on the Italy v Switzerland international. "Inzaghi wants to complete the
task swiftly. By beating Switzerland, we make sure of qualifying."
