Transfer news dominates the
headlines with all the Serie A clubs looking to strengthen their squads
for the coming season. The annual summer merry-go-round is well underway.
But it is a woman, Carolina
Morace, who has stolen the limelight in the sports pages today. She has
made history by becoming the first woman to coach an Italian league football
team, namely C1 club Viterbese. Viterbese president Luciano Gaucci plumped
for Morace on the basis of her achievements in the women's game as a player
first and then as a TV commentator.
Alongside this piece of football
history, there is plenty of transfer market news. Nigerian international
Sunday Oliseh now seems to be bound for Juventus rather than Roma.
Tuttosport gives plenty of
column inches to Juventus' pursuit of Croatian forward Milan Rapajc, claiming
the Turin club could reach an agreement with the Perugia player as early
as tomorrow. The paper says: "The deal is imminent. Perugia are set to
receive 10bn lira (around £3.4m) and Alessandro Birindelli."
Other Juventus news is that
French midfielder Didier Deschamps has moved to Chelsea, Inter are interested
in signing defender Mark Iuliano and the chase for Daniel Andersson goes
on. Finally, Alessandro Del Piero is training in Sardinia with fitness
coach Giampiero Ventrone as he waits for news on his new contract.
Gazzetta dello Sport opens
with: "Ventola + Ze Elias + Pagliuca. What a trio for Bologna!" The paper
says the deal will be signed today, with the forward and the midfielder
rated together at 25bn lira (around £8.6m). The Gazzetta adds: "Club
president Giuseppe Gazzoni has signed some of the best and given his new
coach Buso a strong Bologna squad." The paper takes it as read that Deschamps
is going to Chelsea and that Udinese midfielder Jonathan Bachini and Nigeria's
Sunday Oliseh will be coming to Juventus.
Other news is that Chiesa
looks like signing for Fiorentina. Fiorentina coach Trappatoni also seems
to have secured the signatures of Pierini and Taglialatela.
Corriere dello Sport focuses
on the much-discussed race between Inter and Roma to sign Dutch midfielder
Clarence Seedorf. Roma coach Fabio Capello and Inter boss Marcello Lippi
both consider Seedorf a key player. The paper says: "After losing Oliseh
to Juventus, Roma are trying to sign Seedorf from Real Madrid. But Inter's
Moratti has leaked a great 7bn lire (around £2.4m) wage offer for
the player."
Corriere dello Sport also
says Oliseh will join Juventus. The Nigerian said: "I've made the best
choice. I haven't betrayed anyone [referring to Roma in particular]."
The paper says Juventus will
sign Jonathan Bachini tomorrow, in a deal which will give Udinese 15bn
lira (around £5.2m) plus goalkeeper De Sanctis and defender Zamboni.
