Yesterday was a day with
little news on the transfer front. The main action concerned Fiorentina,
the president Cecchi Gori wants to build a great squad and the purchase
of Predrag Mijatovic is certainly an important coup.
However, this weekend the
newspaper's attention is concentrated on the world of motor sports: Motor
Cycling and Formula 1. The Corriere dello Sport has the headline: "Mijatovic
to Firenze. Real's ace has signed for Fiorentina." Trapattoni, enthusiastic
about the new signings, speaks out: "Fiorentina is worthy of the scudetto,
we are not inferior to anyone, I'm convinced we'll have some great results.
It's true, we are a serious squad: the club has made a great effort to
keep its promises. With some sacrifices we'll be able to play with a super
trident.
"With Batistuta, Mijatovic
and Chiesa I have an attacking trio that can go down in history. And in
midfield there's the immense Rui Costa. In defence all the roles are covered."
Meanwhile the controversy
surrounding Anelka continues: "Arsenal are asking Fifa's intervention,
Lazio speed things up: crucial meeting in Paris."
Market rumours: "Inter closer
to O'Neill. Parma buy Ortega. Perugia: Milanese coming. Reggina: Ferron
is the new goalkeeper." While Tuttosport has Filippo Inzaghi on the front
page, saying: "Great, Juve. The agreement with Del Piero is key, together
we are a key couple. The club is carrying on with its policy of recruiting
youngsters and this guarantees us the opening of a winning cycle."
Juve, in the meantime, are
busying themselves trying to bring Djetou to Ancelotti's court: "His future
with the black and whites will be decided on Tuesday in Monaco." Torino
pull off a huge result: "They've bought Wanchope, the Derby County bomber
will arrive next year."
Inside the Turin daily we
find other transfer news: "Inter try again to get Pancaro. Felipe, rejected
by Roma, skips his medicals and goes back to Brazil: he will seek arbitration
from Fifa. Perugia is negotiating with Milanese, Bettarini and Birindelli."
The Gazzetta dello Sport
gives centre billing to the delicate situation involving Angelo Peruzzi,
not yet sure whether he'll be wearing an Inter shirt next year. "Ferrara-Peruzzi:
Inter are thinking about it. The matter regarding the keeper should finally
be resolved on Tuesday. Amongst the various hypotheses, there's also another
transfer from Torino to Milano: it's that of the defender, who is one of
Lippi's trusted men."
Inside the Milan daily there
is an exclusive interview with the Juve defender Iuliano in which he denies
the rumours which say he's on the move: "There's a great season ahead of
me here. Last year we had a lot of problems and we finished the championship
certainly not living up to our potential and Juve's prestige. The season
that is starting shortly will be one of redemption: I am convinced of that."
