Christian Vieri makes the
headlines again today following the Inter forward’s skilful display at
the Moretti Trophy in Udine last night.
The Gazzetta dello Sport
likens Vieri to a whirlwind, the Corriere dello Sport calls him lightening
while Tuttosport describes him as flying. The Inter - Udinese clash ended
1- 1, Mariotti’s equaliser taking the edge of Vieri’s goal scored after
54 seconds.
Udinese were the better team
throughout, despite havine been beaten by Parma on penalties (8-9), and
by Inter (5-6). Parma won the tournament thanks to victory over Inter 1-0,
Di Vaio scoring from a penalty.
Continuing with football,
Ventola scored three in Bologna’s 4-0 win over Faenza, Lecce beat Cittadella
2-1, Perugia lost 4-0 to Celta Vigo and Vicenza clash with Cagliari ended
goal-less.
"A team for any occasion"
is the headline of page 11 of Gazzetta dello Sport: "Conte, Pessotto and
Kovacevic are all fast: Ancelotti has only to take his pick."
"Ferrara, Tudor and Birindelli
are available if needed. Tacchinardi is ready to play centre forward. The
club is now focused towards their Intertoto final against Rennes on Tuesday.
Del Piero will captain the team and Zidane is likely to play the second
half, probably taking his place."
Meanwhile, Tuttosport reports
that Juventus have resisted calls for Zidane to play in France’s friendly
with Ireland on 18 August.
La Stampa dedicates an article
to Juventus.com and the e-mail service that allows the fans to talk to
the players. The provocative headline reads: "SuperPippo, will you go out
with me?"
They also feature an interview
with Tacchinardi who thanks Deschamps for the advice and support he has
given him in the past seasons.
