Ancelotti assesses the bianconeri

Juventus will be back to the grindstone on August 16 with a double training session at the ‘Comunale’ stadium in Turin. Coach Carlo Ancelotti gives his assessment of the players who have been used in the Intertoto Cup so far:

Van der Sar: "He put on his best performance against Rennes." Ancelotti says the Dutch keeper is settling in and has nearly found his feet within the squad.

Rampulla: "He’s a surefire bet. When the heat is on, I can always depend on him."

Ferrara: "His performances show that he has fully recovered."

Montero: "He has not played very much. It is a shame that he was suspended, but aggression is one of his assets."

Mirkovic: "He played his best match against Rennes. He was clever, watchful and determined. Everyone was looking at Del Piero and Zidane, but I believe all the players are important and I was very happy with the way Mirkovic played."

Iuliano: "Due to his build, he is one of the players who has struggled most during training. He has had a few problems, but it won’t be long before he’s at his best."

Tudor: "What I said about Iuliano also goes for Tudor as they have a similar build."

Birindelli: "He is amongst those who are in best shape. He started training on July 1 and is reaping the rewards. He is a steady wing-back and defender."

Zambrotta: "He's coming on and has already shown that he’s an excellent buy."

Bachini: "What I said about Zambrotta applies here as well. Running is one of his strong points and because of this he has had a few problems linked with training. Now he is reaping the rewards for the work he has put in and this could be seen in the match against Rennes."

Pessotto: "He was not used very much, but he has shown great promise playing out wide in the midfield."

Conte: "He’s our captain. Need I say more."

Oliseh: "He got off to a flying start, but as he is not used to the workload he has lost some of his shine. He has shown great ability in playing long balls and shooting from long range."

Davids: "It was a shame he could not be used in the Rennes match due to the substances in the eye drops he used."

Tacchinardi: "Events have shown how important he is to the team."

Zidane - Del Piero: "They are coming back to full fitness. There is no need to talk about them as everyone knows their strengths."

Kovacevic: "He’s clearly not in spectacular form right now. Nevertheless he has shown that he’s not a selfish player, that he is a team player and soon he will reach peak fitness."

Amoruso: "Juventus want to keep him, but he is unlikely to play until his contract is sorted out."
