Rapier & Sword Historical Study

Outside of the SCA, I have found myself with a sword in my hand since the late 80's, from LRP in the woods, to performance sword performances, to collegiate fencing.

I began fencing within the SCA in 2000, initially learning from a sport perspective. In late 2001, I began trying to add historic technique to my style, and experimented in several different master's styles, focusing on Capo Ferro in 2003. I continue to fence within the SCA, run tournaments, marshall & generally cheer on my fellow combattants.

During 2004, I become involved with Western Martial Arts (WMA) and have become locally involved as a member of Old World Martial Arts (OWMA) a fencing salle in Kent, WA, whose goal is to begin teaching historical European Sword Styles to students, and as a participant with members of Tattershall. OWMA is one of several groups in the Seattle area that study the art of historic fighting of Europe, with the different schools focusing on various teachings of Sword, Rapier, Staff, Pugilism & others.

In rapier, I have become a fairly dedicated student to the teachings of Capo Ferro & Giganti. I have had some exposure to Fabris, Di Grassi and Saviolo as well, but as noted, am currently focusing on the italian styles of Capo Ferro & Giganti.

In Sword and Sword & Buckler, I have begun studying from I.33, Silver, Marrozo & Mancilino. I have many drills and passes to practice before I will gain profiency, but the art & motion of the sword style is quite alluring.
