Our Team's History |
Our team's brief history began at the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year. We were not supposed to compete until the Tampa drill meet December 2, 2000, but we were suprised to learn that we were to compete at the October drill meet at Raines High School in Jacksonville, FL. We were not informed of this until the day of the meet. We "threw" together a five minute routine in twenty minutes. Not only did we throw together a routine extremely fast, we also took second place! We were extremely pleased with ourselves. After a lot of determination and hard work(practice before and after school five days a week) we had a decent routine formed and well practiced by December for the Tampa drill meet. This is known as one of the fiercest drill competitions in the state of Florida, short of the Nationals. There were nineteen teams competing in the Squad Exhibition category, including seven that competed in the 2000 Nationals. We placed 6th. For our first "major" competition, we were again extremely proud of ourselves. The week before our next competition, we lost one of our main squad members, Matt Fogarty, to a broken ankle. Fortunately our primary reserve, Yuri Exum, was "on the ball." He was able to fill in, and was up to speed in four days. Saturday, when the time for competition came we were ready for anything. Our performance was anything but perfect, but it still highly impressed the judges, enough to get us the 1st place trophy. Now, in our inaugural year, we are qualified for state. |
