Iron Tigers

Situation:
IE wants some payback, so we're going to hit the Kallon Industries warehouse complex on Keid. There's an electrical storm on the horizon. Think I'll use it to sneak under the radar. Going to have to move fast and hit hard though. Hate to leave the team behind, but I'm not used to pulling missions like this with them. Have worked with Wycoffe back when we were piloting lights in ol' Ironside's recon lance. Man I miss the old bastard. Yes, I'll take my Black Hawk-KU and bring Wycoffe and his Avatar. Should be a cake walk.

It was meant to be a simple hit-and-run mission. Smash the warehouses, bloody the nose of any defenders, and grab what we can during the confusion. Only there were five heavy 'Mechs instead of the lance of lights that were supposed to be there. If I didn't know better, I'd say that someone talked! Going to find out where the leak is, and plug it for good!
Coming in under that electrical storm was a stroke of brilliance. Nice to see something going my way for a change. Fried the electronics on those old-tech BattleMechs. Gave me and Wycoffe the chance to smash all five of them before they could put us down for the count. I'm the hammer, he's the anvil. Good man to work with, the Captain. Sigh. Time to sift through the repair and refit reports.
The ups and downs of being a Mercenary commander. We made enough money to repair the armor damage to my Black Hawk-KU, totally repair Wycoff's Avatar, and even get that Warhammer fixed. But, that's about it. Had a respectable amount of cash left over. But that'll probably go towards monthly bills. Good to be out of debt, but need to start pulling some extra jobs to start getting ahead. Going to have to hold off repairing those two Crusaders for the time being.
There were other benefits though. Salvaging those three 'Mechs, even if they are D-rated, goes a long way towards rebuilding the unit. No, MY unit. Even though the Colonel is dead, the Tigers still don't feel like they're mine. Heh, I thought Kaitlyn was going to kill me when she saw Wycoffe's Avatar just propped up there on one leg. Add that to repairing those three heavies and she was spitting blood. Until we opened up that warehouse and pulled out a factory-fresh Templar-OB. Mmmm, I'm really loving those OmniMechs. Got to start buying supplies so we can reconfigure them. Three RAC/2s. Damn that's going to hurt the OpFor! Wonder who I should rotate into that Assault? Everyone was eyeing it as we loaded it on the dropship. Even Rachelle admired the design, even though she'll never admit it. Damn Clanners. Can't even admit that she wants to put that Assault through it's paces. Hell, I bet she wouldn't even pilot that Spector if it wasn't a Star League vintage.
For that matter, Captain Wycoffe went above and beyond the call. Even though his Avatar was crippled, he held off that Warhammer long enough for me to pop the lead Crusader and finish off the 'hammer. Helping me take down the Marauder and Archer didn't hurt either. Mental note: slip him an extra 500 C-Bills at our next port along with a 48 hour pass. He's been dying to ask Kym out for a night on the town. Need to make sure her duty rosters coincide with his. Hopefully she'll take pity on the poor man and go out with him. They both could use some company and some time off. Damn. I'm acting like the 'old man' of the unit. Wonder if the Colonel had this problem.
Repairs on the 'Hawk, Avatar, and 'Hammer are proceeding nicely. Will be done before we arrive at our next location--deep in the heart of Capellan territory. Shudder. Should probably do something nice for Kaitlyn while I'm at it. Fixing both Wycoffe's Avatar and that Warhammer can't be easy. Think I'll log in a couple of hours patching my armor. That'll make her job a little easier. If I can finish these damn reports!
Hrm. Need to pick up some infantry support. Everyone is getting really pissed off with pulling double-duty running security. Need to get a more permanent transport solution as well. Got a report on a "Gerald Blix" who's hiring out parts of his unit. Lots of BattleArmor in his roster. They would've been real handy searching those warehouses the other day. Report says he's former ComStar. Given how skittish the Wobbies have been acting, I normally wouldn't give him the time of day, but those Explorer Corps boys really bailed our asses out of trouble back in the Deep Periphery when the Clanners jumped us. Think I'll give the good Major Blix an HPG com and see how much it'll cost to subcontract that security team. Also need to drop a line to Tyler before we jump out of the system. He's always got a crazy scheme to get ahead of the game, wonder if he can get the gears turning towards some transport. The Terrors were in the same boat as we are, last I knew. Heh, my jaw still aches from that bar fight. Mental note: never pick a fight with an Elemental, even with Tyler watching my back!
Okay, payroll and duty schedules to review and then I can get back to my Black Hawk.
