Chapter Four "Lance, what are you doing?" JC asked following Lance into the large master bedroom. "What does it look like I'm doing?" Lance asked impatiently , throwing his suitcase on the bed and flipping it open. "I'm going to find her." "How are you going to find her?" "I don't know, but I have to find her. I have to get to her and know that she is ok, that she still loves me." Lance threw some clothes into the suitcase and turned to JC. "What would you do if Bobbie took off and you knew she was hurting?" "Go find her." JC conceded, grabbing some clothes from one of the drawers in the large oak dresser. "I'm coming with you." He announced. "Us too." Justin and Chris proclaimed from the door. "I wish I could go too, but with the new baby and everything.." Joey stated. "It's ok Joe, I understand, don't even give it a second thought." Lance smiled at his long time friend. "None of you have to come with me." "We know we don't have to, we want to. Kenz means a lot to us." They all nodded, and turned to leave. "We'll go home and pack and be back in about 45 ok?" "Ok, thanks guys." Lance turned back to his packing and was done within minutes. He sat on the bed nervously waiting for the others to get back. He decided to try her cell phone, and got her voice mail. "Kenz, it's me. Please come home baby, I love you. I know why you left, and I need you to come home. I love you." He sighed before hanging up. McKenzie looked down at her phone as it rang, she saw Lance's number and decided to ignore it. She knew she would have to face up to him eventually, but she just wasn't ready. She pulled off the freeway into a small rest stop and called her voice mail. The message from Lance shocked and frightened her. What did he mean he knew why she left? How could he possibly know? As McKenzie was pulling back onto the freeway Lance and his three friends were doing the same. Lance made some phone calls on the way, most importantly to McKenzie's doctor. He quickly gave Lance all of the information he had, where the doctor was located, and his phone number. The four men arrived at the airport only moments later and booked seats to Santa Barbara, via Los Angeles. They were in the air about 2 hours later and none of them relaxed much during the long flight. When they arrived they rented a large SUV and went directly to a hotel. They knew that they would all be thinking clearer after a good night's sleep. McKenzie pulled into a large hotel that night, she knew that she shouldn't use the credit card Lance had given her, but she needed some pampering and a good night's sleep. She would finish the last leg of her journey the next day and that was going to be the hardest part. Her mind was swimming with what she would say when she called Lance, how she would explain. She knew that even as easy going as he was this would be a huge blow to him. She decided, after much self doubt, to call Chris. He had always been good at giving her sound advice in the past. After settling into her room she dialed his number and hoped that he had his phone on. He picked up after the third ring sounding tired, which was very unlike him at this early hour. "Chris? Are you ok?" "Kenz, is that you?" He asked sounding much more alert now. "Where are you? Are you ok?" "I'm fine, I'm sorry I made you worry. There were so many things going on, and I was so afraid, I didn't want anyone to worry about me, or feel sorry for me. So I left." "Kenz, where are you?" She heard the disticnt sound of Lance's voice in the background then. "I have to go, tell Lance I love him." After hanging up she fell onto the large bed and cried herself to sleep.
