Chapter Seventeen

I knew what Joey had found before I even went up the stairs. I had forgotten to tell him not to go in there, but now it was too late. I found Joey just where I knew I would, standing in the middle of what would have been a nursery. The room was completely decorated and furnished. The walls painted to look like the sky. The crib filled with stuffed animals. There was a picture on the dresser that Joey saw after scanning the room. He walked to it as I held my breath.

"Tiff, you look so happy here. Look how big you were!" He said smiling through his tears.

"I know, that was about 2 weeks before..." I trailed off looking around the room for the first time in four years. Justin walked past me into the room. He looked down at the picture Joey was holding and up at me.

"Tiff, you were pregnant?" He asked, eyes wide with shock.

"No, just fat." I said sarcastically, slowly walking into the room. It hurt to be there but not as much as I thought it would. It was almost a relief to be there.

"Why didn't we ever know this?" JC asked, more Joey than me.

"We were just starting out then, we weren't that close. You knew Robbie had died, that was enough." Joey sighed. "I'm sorry I never told you though." We all stood in silence for what seemed like hours. I stood near the window clutching a teddy bear. "Tiff, are you ok?" Joey asked putting an arm around my shoulders.

"Yeah, I'm ok." I smiled wiping away a few tears that had fallen. "This was actually good, I hadn't even opened this room since the night of the accident." I put my arm around his waist and we walked out of the room. "I'm sorry you had to see that though."

"It was good actually, I never got to see you while you were pregnant. You were cute." He said laughing softly.

"I'm hungry, let's eat." I said as we went down the stairs. I finished making my sandwich and started one for Joey as the rest of the guys slowly made their way downstairs.

"Tiff, can we ask you something?" Chris asked nervously.

"Sure guys, what's up?" I replied, handing Joey his sandwich and going into the living room.

"We don't want oto pry or anything, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to." JC stated sitting next to me on the sofa.  I looked around at all the guys waiting for someone to start talking, JC continued. "What happened?" He asked quietly.

"TIff, you don't have to talk about this." Joey said sitting on the other side of me and putting a hand on my knee.

"No, it's ok Joe. It will probably be good for me actually." I said putting my hand on his and looking up at him. "Is it ok with you?"

"Yeah, I think I'll be ok." He said leaning back and starting to eat his sandwich. I took a deep breath and started to tell the story.
