A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY...

The following poem was written after a conversation I had with my mom about family and friends. The conversation got me thinking about it and just what it meant to me. Much later that night suffering a bout with insomnia I got out of bed after tossing and turning, trying to falll asleep. That half awake and half asleep state brought forth this cadence. I hope you enjoy it.

ROOTS

Maybe we can take a tip from the migthy sequoia trees. They know where thier roots are, roots that nurture and feed so that they can grow hundreds of feet into the sky. Roots that gather their food from the precious soil. Soil that is rich in nutrients, created from the composting brush that falls to the forest floor. Even the sequoia contributes it's own leaves to the soil. Giving of itself in a cycle of life. Do you know where your roots are? Mine are firmly planted, planted among the soil of my friends and my family. The people that have nurtured me to help me grow. To grow above the clouds to where I can see the beauty of the endless landscape of possiblities the world has to offer. And I give to these people my love and my compassion so that I may help nurture them to feed thier soil so that they too can grow above the clouds. To touch the stars and dream of the beauty they create around them. For that beauty is no dream, it's as real as the soil that feed our roots. Roots entangled with one another. Growing. Feeding. Caring. So never forget your roots, for without them you wither and die. Never to know your full potential as to what you can reach, what you can offer to help paint the landscape of your horizons. Never to look beyond your forest, imprisoned by your own greed. Stagnating in dull lifeless soil with no other roots to help give you strength to stand up and be a part of the forest we create, a forest called Humanity. For one tree does not make a forest and there would be no forest with out us trees.
