You may be asking yourself what exactly is Glam Rock, well...here are some definitions: Taken from UrbanDictionary.com During the 70's and 80's, an affective movement called Glam Rock thrived the stages of pop audiences. Glam Rock could also be considered Butt Rock, they are similar but Glam Rock has a more pop audience approach. The usual aspect of a Glam Rock song consisted of a rhythm guitar beat, a brief keyboard solo, and an unusually long guitar solo. There was a long line of exceptions to that but The songs always left a lyrical imprint in the brain. Glam rock artists usually dressed "pretty" with face paint, makeup, costumes, unusual hair, and tight clothing. Glam Rock was very popular most likely because it resembled the work of Elvis. Though Glam Rock is truly dead, the "Third Generation Punk" movement uses unusually similar aspects. I dont personally think thats the greatest definition of Glam Rock...Elvis? no....but ok...heres another one... Taken from 80music.about.com Throughout the 80s, one of the fatest growing genres in popularity was Heavy Metal. But not necessarily in the classic sense. It was a kind of hard rockin' music which looked to the esthetics and sensibilities of 70s glam rockers like The Sweet, Slade and The New York Dolls. It combined hard edge rockin' guitars with bubblegum pop to create a sound that hit hard, but was still palatable to the mainstream popular music markets. Bands furiously proliferated, especially around the Los Angeles music scene and each counted on their look nearly as importantly, as their sound. Ok, thats a little better. Anyways glam rock is one of, if not my favorite, type of music during the 80's, and its not just the crazy clothing and bad-ass make-up, but the quality of the music! Here are some of my favorites: I Wanna' Rock - Twisted Sister We're Not Gonna Take it - Twisted Sister (pretty much everything by T.S. is good) Turn up the Radio - Autograph Midnight Maniac - Krokus I highly recommend purchasing the CD titled "80's Glam Rock" which includes many hit songs.
