Cenine


You're walking through a dense forest, filled with ancient redwoods hundreds of feet tall. Suddenly you come to a round clearing, with a giant redwood in the very center. You approach the tree slowly. It must be over fifteen feet in diameter. You walk around to the back of the tree, and notice a huge hole carved out at the base of the tree! You stick your head inside and look around. It's a tunnel entrance! Cautiously, you start down the steep tunnel, trying to keep from sliding in the moist earth. The walls of the tunnel are lined with small torches, dimly lighting the path in front of you. After a while, the tunnel finnaly levels out. You can't help but notice it's much warmer down here than it was above ground, and realize that this far down the soft dirt is warmer than it is outside.

Finally you reach a large, cavernous chamber. Something moves in the shadows...or is it just the dim torchlight playing tricks on you? You see a flash of purple, then it disappears into the shadows once more. You take a few steps forward, straining to see what it is. Just then a huge, purple head materializes. Following it is a large, muscular body, somewhat resembling that of a giant cat or dog. It cocks its head and raises an eyebrow ridge at you.



Then it begins to approach you slowly, testing your scent. You gape in awe at the colossal creature. It must be almost seven feet at the shoulder! Suddenly, it gives a monumental yawn and looks at you, this time more with amusement than inquisition. "Greetings, traveler. I am Arx, the Cenine. Please excuse my manner, I've just arrived, and I'm quite weary. I've come all the way from Kiestt. Now, if you'll excuse me, I don't mean to be rude, but I really must finish my nap! You're welcome to stay awhile, if you wish, but please just don't make too much noise." With that, Arx retreats back to his sleeping corner, leaving you to your own devices. You decide not to stay, but consider visiting this Kiestt, and see about getting your own cenine. They're very beautiful, and extremely intelligent.
