He pulls into her drive and gets out of his car
She sees him and steps out onto the porch with a smile
He walks up to her with an arm behind his back
And she rushes towards him, just to hold him for a while.
She steps away slowly realizing something is wrong
He hands her a rose as tears begin to swell in her eyes
He then holds her close, for just a short time
He never was very good at good-byes.
He looks in her eyes and draws a deep breath
Then slowly spouts the words she thought she would never hear
He turns to leave and there she stands
Frozen in time, facing her biggest fear.
She hears his car pull out
And down the road he goes
The tears swelled up in her eyes
And the beating of her heart froze.
She fell onto her knees
Putting her hands to her face
Trying to hold back her tears
And focus her mind on another place.
Looking deep into her soul
To find what went so wrong
Wondering if it all was just a waste of time
If he really loved her or if he was lying all along.
She slowly stands and regains her composure
Lost and confused, still not knowing why
And to this day she still wonders
For she's never received a reason as to why he said good-bye.
