Let Her Go
by Troubador

No comfort has the fire shedding little more than light
The warmth creeps slow across the ground and barely heats the night
It swirls about your ankles as the wind it cuts your flesh
And you shiver with the notion of an oft' impending death

You're colder than the driven snow and harder than the steel
The leaden weights upon your mind are all you'll ever feel
It hurts to know you cannot change, perhaps you never will
Inside your head you're far away, but here you're standing still

The undertakers scraping spade, a hard and rasping sound
It makes you think of being there, a-lying in the ground
You close your eyes and shut it out, but still the spade scrapes on
The padre murmurs litany, reminding you she's gone

You shiver once, shiver twice, but you know it's not the cold
This wind can tear your fingers off, but this is not so bold
The fire crackles silently and in it's light you know
That if you do not leave her, you'll be colder than the snow
