(The scene is on the busy streets of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Christmas Eve morning. The streets are filled with shoppers getting their last minute Christmas presents. There are children looking in store windows hoping that their dreams will come true on Christmas morning. There is a battered Santa Clause on the corner holding a Campbells soup can looking for donations so that he may have a scrap of food for a Christmas "meal". The traffic is horrible because of people coming from all around to celebrate the holidays with their families. Not an unusual site for Christmas in Philly. Among these vehicles is a stretched black limo with tinted windows. Inside that limo is hometown hero and DRWF superstar Jack Hendrix. He is sitting inside drinking a Bolt 45 and looking out the window at the people and just shaking his head and smiling. He then instructs his driver to pull over at a jewelry store he notices along the street. He gets out and heads into the store. Noone really notices him because he is dressed in a pair of jeans and a CbK t-shiret. He is wearing a leather parka and sunglasses. He has a Dallas Cowboys fitted hat on his head turned to the back and a pair of Oakleys. He heads into the store and heads over to the counter. The suspicious clerk walks up to Hendrix.) CLERK: Um...is there anything I can help you with? HENDRIX: Well man...I am looking for a present for my mother. I am looking for somethin in a diamond necklace. (The clerk goes over to the discounted, cheaper items and pulls out a cheap looking necklace and shows it to Hendrix. Hendrix looks at him in confusion) CLERK: Maybe this will be more in your price range sir. (The clerk's voice is condecending. Hendrix pulls out his money clip that is filled with hundered dollar bills. The clerk looks at it and his eyes light up. Hendrix then puts it back in his pocket and turns back towards the door. The clerk quickly stops him.) CLERK: Sorry sir. But the way you are dressed I thought..... HENDRIX: What? That I didnt have to money? Dude...I could buy this rathole with whats in my pocket. Where do you get off judging people by the way they are dressed? Just because I am dressed comfortably I am all of the sudden poor? You have a long way to go before you will ever be a decent salesman. Besides...if we judged people on appearance I would discount you immediately with that JC Penney suit and those Payless shoes. Hell my sunglasses are worth more than your whole wardrobe. CLERK: But sir..... HENDRIX: Listen here buddy. I am feeling good today with the holidays and all. So I will let this incident slide. Now...I want something nice. Something worth my while. And I want in in front of me now. CLERK: As you wish sir. (The clerk hurridly goes into his vault and brings out a selection of diamond jewelry. He brings it to the counter and instructs an assistant to get Hendrix a cup of coffee. Hendrix sits in front of the counter on the chair and looks over the various items. The clerk holds up a gaudy necklace and explains that it once belonged to Princess Di. Hendrix shrugs it off and looks at the other items. He then chooses a necklace.) CLERK: You have exquisit taste sir. That one was worn by Janet Jackson at the Grammy Awards. It is a ...... HENDRIX: I dont care who wore it. I like it and I will take it...giftwrapped. Comprende? CLERK: Yessir...I will get with it immediately. (The clerk hands the necklace to the assistant and then him and Hendrix finish the financial transaction. When they are done the clerk brings Hendrix the giftwrapped box and Hendrix thinks him and goes back out to his limo. He hops in and the limo driver takes off through town again. Hendrix turns on the television and watches the news. He then looks up and looks out the window and notices something. There is construction being done on a building and a sign that reads "Future Home of Axxess". Hendrix then notices a familiar face in standing and looking at some blueprints. He instructs the driver to pull over and he gets out of the car. He heads over to the man walks up behind him.) HENDRIX: Only you would be working on Christmas Eve you cheap bastard. (The man swings around and looks at Hendrix in anger. Then a smile comes over both of their faces as they roughly shake hands.) MAN: Damnit Jack. Where the hell ya been? HENDRIX: All over Adam. Whats up with this? Givin me some competition? ADAM: Nah. This isnt what you think. I am opening up something different. This is a clothing store. It was Cammi's idea. Hows business goin anyway? Making any money mate? HENDRIX: As always bro. Lets get out of the cold and hop in the limo. Theres a great place around the corner that has great food. Lets get warm and catch up. (Adam accepts the invitation and gets into the car. Him and Hendrix go down the street a little ways and go into a restaurant. The matre de notices that it is Hendrix and he immediately gets a table. The two men order up some drinks and begin to talk.) ADAM: Looks like you are doing quite well for yourself kid. Business goin good? I never remember you picking up a check before. HENDRIX: Business is bumpin as usual. The clubs are holding their own and I am still kicking ass in the ring. ADAM: Yeah I saw that. The only reason you are doin that though is because I retired. HENDRIX: Keep dreaming man. Anyway...when you getting back into the business. ADAM: Well...I am planning on it soon. I need to train some more to get rid of some of thi s ring rust. But it looks like you never stopped. I have been following you in the DRWF is it? Looks like you are back to your old self again. Stepping in and making an impact. Kage would be proud. You have made a name for yourself in this industry quicker than most. (THe waitress brings drinks and they order their food.) HENDRIX: Well man...with mentors like you and Pin helping me through its no wonder I am where I am. I wouldnt have made it without your help. ADAM: Thats not true. Jack....you are one of the most talented individuals I have ever seen. You made it on your own. You sacraficed a lot to get where you are and you deserve everything you get. We were just there. HENDRIX: Yeah. You were there pushing me every step of the way. I never had a chance to rest. You helped me a thousand times more than my so-called teacher ever did. (The waitress brings their food and drinks. They begin eating while their conversation resumes.) ADAM: So Jack....you got a title shot against this Simon Jacobs. Think ya can beat him? He seems like he can give you a lot of trouble. HENDRIX: Jacobs is good....I am not saying he isnt. But I think I can beat him. I did it once and I can do it again. Besides....there is a title on the line and I gotta prove myself. This is the way to do it. I have to beat the best to be the best. ADAM: You shouldnt have to prove anything to anyone. I have seen you beat some of the best. You aint no stranger to gold. This shouldnt be that much of a task for you. Title shots bring out the best in you. I know from experience. HENDRIX: Yeah...we had some great battles. But this is a little different. Its my first shot in the DRWF and Jacobs is a different kind of opponent. He is one of the most intelligent opponents I have ever had. So this should be a nice test. The waitress comes back and checks on the two men. She refills their drinks and gets them their check.) ADAM: Well you gotta go into this focused. Dont go in all cocky and shit and get your ass beat. Stay focused on Jacobs and make sure you dont let him play mind games with you. Keep your head. HENDRIX: Mind games? Im not worried about anyone in the DRWF playing mind games. And I dont plan on going into this match up cocky. I never do. I go in there like its my last match and I am fighting for my very being. Dont worry about me. (Hendrix looks at his Rolex and he gets a surprised reaction. ) HENDRIX: Not to cut this short but I have to get packed for Countdown. You gonna be in town for a while? ADAM: I will be in town till January 3rd I think. You can get in touch with me on my cell. Dont be a stranger. (The two men shake hands and they part sepereate ways. Hendrix heads back out to his limo and gets inside. He heads down the street and to his house on the outside of town. He goes up stairs and checks his messages. There is a message from his manager that Tigga wants an interview when he gets into town. Hendrix just sighs and begins to pack. Next stop....the Big Apple) FADE TO BLACK |
