Looking for a LOW COST ALTERNATIVE to the HAND-HELD CCTV ?
Well you just may have one. Time to look again at the LOGITECH
HAND SCANNER.
Logitech [PC board mounted] hand scanners [with OCR]
have been around for years. The hand scanner head has evolved
from two column [half page] to four column [full page] width.
While they operated on older low powered PC's there were
disappointments associated with using the OCR function. The basic
objections were that aligning half-pages was difficult, the images
were only black and white, the OCR was slow, and hand scanners are
not deck scanners. Usually out of frustration these sacnners were
discarded. Early versions now can be found in yard sales for under
$25.00.
Having examined the cost of Stand-Mounted CCTV's I found my low
vision equalled my low cash. Next I examined the cost of Hand-Held
CCTV's which [although less costly] were priced out of my sight as well.
Therefore, partly out of necessity, poverty, and curiousity. It
was time to EXPERIMENT and RE-EVALUATE my old LOGITECH HAND SCANNER.
1. When you discard the OCR function you remove all the old
disappointments and frustrations.
2. Without the OCR functions your hand held scanner head now becomes a
HAND HELD CCTV CAMERA HEAD attached directly to your computer and screen.
3. Images are brought to screen in save-able TIFF format.
4. DPI switch adjusts image quality, 4 position magnification.
5. Once an image is loaded as a TIFF file computer screen magnification
programs, and color control utilities, can further enhance the image.
6. This works on PC's 286 SX, and higher. Without the OCR function
the software size is greatly reduced. This may function on a PC 8086,
running MS DOS 3.2+ with a RAM DRIVE configuration.
7. The Scan Head Cord length is long enough to seperate your reading area
from being under your computer.
8. Like the Hand Held CCTV Camera Head, the LOGITECH HAND SCANNER HEAD has
its' own external light source directly above the subject/page. No additional
light source is necessary.
FOR ME, THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. I reinstalled my old LOGITECH HAND SCANNER which
cost $125.00 new. For you this can cost as little as $25.00 at a yard sale.
