SOFTWARE DREAMS AND TALKING MACHINES
Low Cost Adaptive Alternative To PC Sound Card.

SpkQQ A shareware "Alternative" to MS Window's Speaker Driver, and the need for a Sound Card to play wav -form sound. This is a low power program and can run on a 386 SX, with MS Windows 3.+

SpkQQ will auto-install, set-up adjustable configuration, and auto-load to run. SpkQQ redirects wav sound output to the PC internal speaker ... rather than a sound card.

Installation may require removal of existing MS Windows System Wav-Driver [SND930.drv]. If so, pre-copy and save should you want to restore it. SpkQQ is also a variable byte Wav Player with volume control.

SpkQQ is multi -tasking and does not lock-up keyboard or mouse functions while in use. Works with wav -form sound and speech applications such as:TALKEYS. As well as several Screen Reader Speech Synthesizers and applications that allow port options to the internal speaker of your computer.

SpkQQ demonstration is full featured, with a 1 week time duration. Both install and uninstall functions are included in the application. The demo can be reloaded to continue the time duration of 1 week.

SPEAKERS and SQUEAKERS.

1. An Internal PC "SPEAKER" is usually small and mounted to the inside case wall. Depending upon the power of your computer, SpkQQ should be able to play directly through your internal case mount speaker without further amplification.

2. An internal PC "SQUEAKER" is a small can-shaped-object mounted directly to the internal Motherboard of your computer. Internal squeakers are sound devices [speakers] that "beep and squeak" and do not have sufficient sound quality or volume without further amplification. Sometimes called a "push -pull speaker", Squeakers receive the same sound input as a normal Speaker [only the quality of the device differs].

If you have a Squeaker or a low powered internal case mounted Speaker:

3. Get an old [used] 16 bit SoundBlaster sound card. Estimated cost [under] $50.00, and you will not need SpkQQ.
-Or-
4. Get a simple external Speaker -Phone Amplifier with magnetic pickup. Estimated cost [under] $20.00, and you will need SpkQQ.

The best alternatives to Squeakers and low powered Speakers is to:

5. Go to your local Radio Shack or electrical supply and purchase a free-standing, battery operated, Speaker -Phone Amplifier with a [suction cup] magnetic [induction coil] pickup [included]. Otherwise known as something you stick on a phone to play conversations into a room. Estimated cost $12.00 to $20.00.

6. If you are disabled, or unfamiliar with the "insides" of your computer, get some assistance ... Now !.

7. Turn Off your computer and then Unplug It !

8. Unscrew [or unlatch] and Open your computer case.

To amplify a low powered internal Speaker or Squeaker:

9. Find the case mounted speaker. Speakers look like small transistor radio speakers
-Or-
A small metal can about the size or a one inch stack of quarters.
-Or-
Both speaker types are connected by a wire from their case mount location to your Motherboard.
-Or-
When you can not find the case mounted speaker, or the connecting wire, look for your speaker wired directly on to the Motherboard.
-Or-
If you don't find either speaker type, you have a Squeaker. A small open topped, metal can, about the size of a pencil eraser. directly attached on to your Motherboard.

10. When you can not identify either Speaker or Squeaker.

  • To identify and verify location, carefully reconnect [plug in] your computer out of its' case.
  • Keep all metal tools, [screwdrivers, pliers, etc], and the metal case, away from the computer.
  • Turn On your computer and go to Windows, Main Group, Control Panned, Sound, and test sounds until you locate and verify their source in your computer.
  • Listen through a plastic drinking straw while touching each possible source.
  • Once identified, Turn Off the computer and Unplug It, to continue.

  • 11. Install the magnetic pickup.

  • Place a very small amount of "Household Goop" brand [flexible glue] into the suction cup of the magnetic pickup.
  • Place the magnetic pickup on -top- of, [not just near to] the speaker or Squeaker, and let glue dry over night.
  • Run the magnetic pickup cord [through an open card slot port] to the outside of the computer case, [or drill a hole].
  • The next day, test the glue and re-verify.

  • 12. Connect the Speaker -Phone Amplifier.
