With WordTalk you get a fairly powerful word processor that will read/write Word 6.0, Write, RTF, and plain text ASCII files without the need for another word processor. WordTalk supports embedded objects such as images, graphics, sound bites, etc. It can use any font installed on your system, and numerous formatting options are available. It's a spin-off from the WordPad program included with Windows'95.
The main feature is the ability to hear words and sentences as you type or go to any point in the document and hear a particular letter, punctuation, line, word or sentence.
WordTalk accomplishes this by automatically uploading text immediately to the clipboard, so TTS programs like PAM, SAM, Reader, or Listen2, can automatically read and speak the text. There is no need to highlight and copy the text to the clipboard as in normal text -to-speech and word processing. When you finish typing a sentence it is spoken, when you position the cursor in the document and press a hot key, the sentence at the cursor position is spoken. When you press another hot key, the word to the right or left of the cursor is spoken, and another hot key will speak the letter/punctuation to the right of the cursor. Using these features you can key through a document and hear it spelled letter by letter or spoken word by word, forward or backward.
You will need to purchase either PAM, SAM, READER, OR LISTEN2, Text To Speech programs configured to automatically read and speak the clipboard text whenever it is changed. All of these programs have this capability.
