Csaba Markus
Csaba Markus
Csaba Markus was born in Budapest, Hungary in1953. Growing up in a city over 2,000 years rich in history and abundant in artistic influences, Csaba became infatuated with the arts at a very young age. From the reconstructed baroque architecture to the carefully excavated castles and palaces, his childhood in Hungary laid the foundations as a source of inspiration for the artist. As history was a part of his everyday life, Markus learned to appreciate the importance of the past, the lessons it had to teach and the beauty that it created.
Young Csaba's obsession with the arts led him to frequent art museums in Hungary and throughout Europe. He was fascinated with the works of the Old Masters of the Renaissance period and was inspired by the classical European art traditions. Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Vermeer and Botticelli made the strongest impressions on young Markus. He began his artistic career as a sculptor under the guidance of the highly acclaimed Hungarian academic, Ferenc Mohacsi Regos. Recognized as a talented artist by his teachers and public alike, Csaba and his work made their first public appearance on international public television when he was 14 years of age.
He became increasingly frustrated with teachers and the confines of the communist system. He desperately sought an environment that would nurture growth and aristic freedom. In 1978, Csaba's "internal revolution" took him to the "New World". Passionate and determined, Csaba settled in Mission Viejo, California, and continued his quest to become a self-supporting, artist. He experimented with many techniques and various mediums: hand made papers, metal sculpture, ceramics, etchings, silk screen, and even animation. It is this diversity and flexibility that has kept his work fresh through the years.
