Logging has been my choice of work for a number of years now, although at times it can be frustrating and difficult, it can also be very rewarding. With tougher restrictions on logging and constant pressure from environmental extremists groups, loggers are having to change the way we do our job. In days gone past all a guy needed was large machinery to build roads to the wood and then mow it all down. Clear cutting is looked at as being "bad" and is being replaced more and more by "commercial thins" This is a method where only a few tree's are cut, while leaving younger timber to continue to grow. The focus of this web site is directed at commercial thinning using small machinery and helicopters, all of which reduce impact upon the residual stand and soil. The table below contains links to individual pages concerning a particular topic of timber harvesting.
