History on Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia has been around for hundreds of years. One of the first known European settlements Port Royal Habitation which was inhabitated from 1605-1613 when it was destroyed. After Champlain and De Monts built the habitation to house their company they built Fort Anne. Champlain and De Monts French settlers settled in Port Royal and started the colony two years before the first permanent English settlement in Jamestown Virginia, three years before the founding of Quebec and fifteen years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Massachusetts.

In the next century English explorers settle in what is presently called Halifax in 1749. About thirty-four years after people settled in Halifax, the town of Digby was settled in 1783 by United Empire Loyalists, led by Sir Robert Digby. Present day Digby is known Worldwide for it's scallops and it has one of the largest scallop fleets in the world.

Another village in southern Nova Scotia is West Port(also known as Brier Island). The village of West Port began as a fishing station on the arrival of David Welch and family in 1769, soon followed by the Morrell family. The population took a sudden jump in 1783 with the arrival of eleven Loyalist families that landed in Digby. Alot of these names are still used today.

During the time when the English first in Acadia (Nova Scotia) they have been disputing with the French in Cape Breton. The Acadians wanted no part in this because they had been living there for along time and didn't feel like the were connected to France anymore. In 1756 the English expelled all of the Acadians that wouldn't fight for the English and moved them out of Acadia. Alot of the Acadians that were expelled walked all the way back to Acadia from the 13 Colonies (Now known as New England U.S.). During the time the Acadians were gone the English burned all of the Acadian villages hoping they wouldn't return.

Later on the English in Acadia were battling with the French in Louisburg. In Louisburg the French had built a fortress to protect them selves. The English later on conquered the fortress. Years later the English started to bring immigrants over from Germany, Scotland, and Ireland. Many immigrants died on the trip over to Acadia.
