Sir John Alexander MacDonald was born in January 11 1815 in Glasgow, Scotland. He immigrated to Canada in 1820. Sir John was a lawyer (called to the Bar in 1836). He died 6 June 1891, Ottawa, Ontario, while still in office. He was buried in Cataraqui Cemetery, near Kingston, Ontario.
He represented Kingston, Ontario. Married 1843, Isabella Clark (1811 - 1856), Two sons (one died in infancy), Re-married 1867, Susan Agnes Bernard (1836 - 1920), and he also had one daughter.
Confederation was largely Macdonald's achievement and Queen Victoria knighted him for it. His education was at Midland District Grammar School and John Cruickshank School, Kingston (Ontario). The political power 1 July 1867 - 5 November 1873 17 October 1878 - 6 June 1891.
