LA COUPOLE
WIZERNE, ST OMER, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE
This site has a huge 21 metres high octagonal hall which was to shelter 14 V2's being made ready for launch under a concrete dome 71 metres across and 5 metres thick. with a network of tunnels underneath for storage etc.
inside the COUPOLE is a totally modern museum with lifts and cinemas, individual headsets, animated displays, etc
there are two separate subjects to look at.
firstly the north of France under German occupation
secondly the V weapons and there subsequent development into space travel. they actually have a V2 which was donated in two parts. the first the body from the american space research programme. and then the engine from the royal air force.
this is la COUPOLE before it was refurbished. it now has a gift centre and cafe as you go in and the tunnels have been tidied up. a good site to visit again the scale is enormous.
